fried cheese


  • 16 oz  String Cheese  (you can use mozzarella , cheddar, provolone, brie,etc)
  • ⅔ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon  smoked paprika  (or regular)
  • 1 teaspoon  garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon  salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon  ground black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • Oil for frying



Step 1 – Cut the cheese into 2 cm thick rectangles. In a small bowl, beat the egg with spices and oregano.

Step 2 – In a medium bowl, mix the bread crumbs or purpose flour  and cornstarch. One by one, pass the cheese over the beaten egg and the flour, pass again the egg and again the flour.

Keep in the fridge during 30 minutes. After this period in the refrigerator, fry the cheese in very hot oil.

Step 3 – In a large heavy saucepan, heat the oil to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C). One at a time, coat each cheese in the flour mixture, then the egg mixture, then in the bread crumbs and finally into the oil. Fry until golden brown, about 30 seconds. Remove from heat and drain on paper towels.

Excellent for appetizers or even for lunch.
